Both gameplays inherited from Warcraft 3 game called DOTA or Defence of The Ancient.
Heroes of Newerth wins of Its Graphical textures and animations than League of Legends but all of its heroes' abilities look still the same as DOTA.
But in League of Legends, skills, hero and graphical effect is far more different than DOTA or HON. It provide many new features like Rune, Summoner, Player Level, etc. So we can adds more abilities to our Hero (in the game).
